La Jolla Beach & Tennis Club Policies

We look forward to having you stay with us at The La Jolla Beach & Tennis Club, a private Member and Guest property. We ask all Guests to keep in mind the following Club Policies:

*Due to COVID-19 safety precautions and current county health guidelines, some of our amenities may be limited or unavailable. We will continue to enhance services as permitted by the State and County of San Diego.


  • Each guest shall enter the property through our Ambassador Booth and will be screened for temperature. Any guest with a temperature of 100.0 degrees or more may not enter the property.
  • Face masks are required when within six-feet of another guest (outside of your family unit) or Club employee.
  • Please practice social distancing of at least six-feet throughout the property, including the pool and beach areas.
  • Wash your hands frequently for at least twenty seconds, or use hand sanitizer.


  • At check-in, guests will utilize a credit card outlet to minimize contact. In addition, all room keys will be sanitized using CDC approved disinfectant.
  • At this time, registered hotel guests and members are allowed on property and no outside guests will be permitted.  Guest passes for visitors are temporarily unavailable.
  • There will be no daily housekeeping service. Delivery of linens or supplies may be requested through the Front Desk.
  • Congregating and participating in group activities is not permitted.
  • Gatherings of up to eight people are permitted. If gathering includes outside of same household members, social distancing and/or face masks are required.


  • As a safety protocol for guests and employees, guest rooms will only be serviced by housekeepers prior to the guest’s arrival.
  • Housekeeping items such linens, bath products and cleaning supplies are available upon request as needed.

  • Our private beach is open daily from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.
  • Gatherings are permitted of up to 8 people.If gathering includes outside of same household members, social distancing and/or face masks are required.
  • Beach lounges and chairs must be set six feet apart at all times.
  • Swimming, kayaking, and surfing are permitted by the county in designated sections of the beach.
  • Alcoholic beverages and glass bottles are permitted on the private beach.
  • Please note that all California State Alcohol Beverage Control laws are enforced at all times.
  • Amplified music is not allowed on the beach.
  • Swimmers use the beach at their own risk. The Club does not provide lifeguards and is not responsible for injuries incurred while using the beach.
  • The Club is not responsible or liable for articles collected, damaged, lost or stolen.
  • Due to the family nature of our private Club, please refrain from wearing overly revealing swimwear.


  • Beach Equipment will be available daily from 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.
  • Lounge chairs, umbrellas and side tables will be available on a first come, first served basis. With social distancing guidelines in place, inventory has been decreased.
  • Equipment is sanitized between each use and clean equipment is kept in corrals. Our Beach Team will set up equipment upon request to ensure it is kept clean before use.
  • Guests must be present for chair set up.
  • The chairs and tables on the Esplanade have been spaced appropriately (six feet apart) to abide by social distancing guidelines.
  • Community grills, water coolers, sunscreen, toy chests, self-serve beach equipment and wind boards are not available due to health guidelines set forth by the state and county.


  • Evening beach barbeque reservations are limited due to social distancing guidelines. Reservations are available by lottery system and those selected will be notified two days in advance. Each barbeque set-up will accommodate a maximum of eight guests from the same household only, and equipment includes one dining table, one serving table, eight chairs and one barbeque.
  • Barbeques will be set-up on the beach and may be lit at 5 p.m.
  • For safety reasons, barbeques may not be set-up on the Esplanade, Esplanade wall or guest room balconies.
  • Personal barbeques and fire pits are not permitted.
  • Please ensure inflatable rafts are kept off of the Esplanade so other guests may pass.

The private Club Dining Room is available for take-out and patio dining daily from 11:30 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. For everyone’s safety, new dining-in guidelines are in place and must be followed while in the dining area.

  • Dining tables have been socially distanced six-feet.
  • All party members must be present to be seated.
  • Please wear your face mask until you are seated at your designated table.
  • Face masks must also be worn if leaving the table for any reason.
  • Party size is limited to eight (upon availability) and they do not need to be from the same household. Large party seating is limited.
  • Reservations for patio seating are required for both lunch and dinner and can be made by calling 858.551.4668.
  • Footwear and cover-ups/shirts are required at all times on the Club Dining patio.
  • Use of cell phones in dining areas is prohibited.

  • The pool is open daily from 6:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.
  • Swim reservations are required and can be made in 30 or 60 minute increments. Reservations can be made on the CourtReserve app, through the Front Desk, Pool Attendant or Beach Services office.
  • Adult Lap Swimming for ages 18+ is available from 6:00 to 9:00 a.m. and again from 12:00 to 1:30 p.m.
  • All-ages Lap Swimming is available from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
  • Family swim will be available daily from 1:30 to 7:00 p.m. with open swim within the lane markers. Two families are permitted per lane, and must maintain six-feet social distancing.
  • Swimmers use the pool at their own risk. The Club does not provide lifeguards and is not responsible for injuries to anyone using the pool.
  • Children under 12 years of age must be under the supervision of an adult.
  • Baby flotation devices are permitted. Rubber rafts, balls and other water toys are not allowed.
  • Babies must wear disposable swim diapers and are available for purchase in the Tennis Shop.
  • Due to the family nature of our private Club, please refrain from wearing overly revealing swimwear.


  • The 12 championship tennis courts are open daily from 6:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.
  • Tennis courts are open for singles use and doubles play and must be reserved through the CourtReserve app.
  • No court fees apply.
  • All guests must wear shoes with non-marking soles.
  • Players must provide their own equipment and new tennis balls must be used for each occasion and may not be shared.
  • Please adhere to the posted dress code.
  • Private and Group Lessons are available.


  • Golfers must provide their own equipment and maintain six feet social distancing at all times.
  • Flags, rakes and ball washers have been removed.
  • Golfers use the course at their own risk and are responsible for damages or injuries from the flight of their golf ball.
  • Golf fees will be charged to your guest room and are $7.50 for adults (ages 13 and up) and $6 for children (ages 6-12).
  • You will need to bring your own golf clubs, balls, pencils and scorecards.


  • Per county health guidelines, our fitness center is temporarily closed. There is individual equipment available for use in designated guest rooms that can be reserved through our front desk.
  • Proper fitness attire and exercise shoes must be worn while using the equipment.


  • Per San Diego County health guidelines, the Children’s playground is temporarily closed.


  • Property quiet time is from 10:00 p.m. to 8:00 a.m.
  • As a safety precaution, use of skateboards, roller skates/blades, wheelies, segways, hover boards and scooters is prohibited in all areas.
  • Bicycles are permitted around the Duck Pond and may be stored in the bike rack adjacent to Tennis Court 6.
  • Bocce ball court is open daily on a first-come, first-served basis. No court fees apply. At this time, we are unable to provide equipment, but you are welcome to bring your own.
  • To help make everyone’s outdoor experience as pleasant as possible, please do not feed the birds.
  • Children 12 and under must be in the direct company of a supervising adult in all Club areas.


  • Use of drones is prohibited in all Club areas.


  • For the convenience of other guests, and in an effort to provide the cleanest accommodations available, pets are not permitted at the Club.
  • Front Desk staff will help you make alternate plans for your pet.


  • In accordance with California state law, smoking of cigarettes, e-cigarettes or cigars is prohibited in the Club Dining Room and patio, The Marine Room and The Shores Restaurant.
  • Smoking is not permitted in the following areas: Guest rooms and balconies, Walnut Lounge, La Sala and Palm Room, Beach esplanade, Courtyard areas, Swimming pool, Tennis courts and spectator stands, Club corridors and breezeways
  • Smoking is permitted on the Golf course (except near the playground), Parking lot and Pond area. Smoking is also permitted on the private beach after 5 p.m.


  • When entering the Club, please stop and identify yourself, as well as your guests, to the Guest Booth ambassador.
  • The Club disclaims any responsibility to protect against the loss of or damage to vehicles or their contents.
